Bernard Roy, Director general of AFS Interculture Canada, explains that the organization's primary purpose is to facilitate international student exchanges. Their greatest need for Canadian volunteers is to host the students who come to live here for a year.
AFS can also arrange for adults to volunteer abroad and live with local families for stays of three weeks or longer. The program operates on a self-financing basis, so the fees paid by the volunteer covers their participation costs and contributes to the ongoing operation of AFS.
